In December 2023, the average import price for vegetables; potatoes (other than seed), fresh or chilleds amounted to $407 per ton, leveling off at the previous month. In general, the import price, however, showed a mild decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in June 2023 an increase of 22% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $495 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to December 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Australia ($1,038 per ton), while the price for China ($334 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+7.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In December 2023, the average export price for vegetables; potatoes (other than seed), fresh or chilleds amounted to $438 per ton, surging by 3% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.3%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2023 when the average export price increased by 24% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $583 per ton in July 2023; however, from August 2023 to December 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Singapore ($645 per ton), while the average price for exports to Thailand totaled $222 per ton.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Singapore (+0.2%).

In 2022, overseas purchases of vegetables; potatoes (other than seed), fresh or chilleds increased by 22% to 233K tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a slight reduction.

In value terms, imports of vegetables; potatoes (other than seed), fresh or chilleds soared to $100M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.8% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period.
