In 2022, the average import price for apples, pears and quinces; freshes amounted to $823 per ton, surging by 4.8% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average import price increased by 26% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $921 per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($860 per ton), while the price for Kenya ($284 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kenya (+10.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for apples, pears and quinces; freshes amounted to $654 per ton, rising by 8.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a mild shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 33% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $824 per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Sudan ($683 per ton), while the average price for exports to Democratic Republic of the Congo stood at $569 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Sudan (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Imports of Apples, Pears and Quinces; Fresh in Uganda
In 2022, the amount of apples, pears and quinces; freshes imported into Uganda dropped dramatically to 5.8K tons, shrinking by -15.4% against the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 44%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 6.9K tons, and then dropped sharply in the following year.
